Andrew Gilfillan – Gone Home

Posted on 12 September 2022

It is with sadness we circulate the news that one of our fellow Scouters, Andrew Gilfillan, 51, passed away last week. While he had left 42nd Bolton Scout Group in 2014, he had given over 20 years of service, Scouting man and boy. He joined the St Elizabeth’s Cubs moving up to Scouts, and then helped out with both the Beaver Colony and the Cub Pack. In time, he eventually became Akela,. Known to many as “Gilly”, especially in the old Bolton West, he had a very unique, strong personality and would certainly let you know his opinions, You certainly know where you stood with him.

Like many people, he suffered severely from anxiety through the pandemic, and at the end of 2021 was beginning to recover and looked forward to 2022, hoping for a better year. Unfortunately that wasn’t to be. We understand from his family that he suffered a short illness and died on Monday 5th September. Details about this and his funeral are unknown at this point in time.
